Code of Conduct
Trinity Swing 2027 Code Of Conduct
West Coast Swing is a playful, creative dance rooted in partnership and musicality. We believe the best dancing happens when everyone feels safe, respected, and accepted, so we're passionate about building a culture that welcomes and encourages diversity and growth.
This Code of Conduct applies to all WCS NI classes, workshops, and our flagship event, Trinity Swing.
By attending, you agree to help us foster an inclusive environment where everyone can grow. All attendees are asked to read, understand, and follow the code below.
1. Respect and Kindness
We are an inclusive community. Please treat every dancer, instructor, and staff member with courtesy, regardless of their background, identity, or skill level.
-
Equal Footing: Meet every dancer as a human first. You don't have to agree with everyone's viewpoints to treat them with dignity.
-
Zero Tolerance: Discrimination, harassment, and bullying (based on race, gender, orientation, ability, or age) are not permitted.
-
Small Gestures: Support competitors, start a conversation with someone new, or offer a kind word. Positive energy is contagious!
2. Consent
Your comfort and your partner's comfort are paramount, and consent is key to achieving them. Be vigilant of other dancers' comfort zones and express your own clearly and kindly.
-
Ask & Listen: Consent can be verbal or non-verbal. If it's not an enthusiastic "yes," it's a "no" — and that's a welcome choice.
-
Accepting Dances: Show your enthusiasm for a dance so your partner can be confident you're saying yes! Smile, nod, or say "Yes please!" — make it obvious.
-
Declining Dances: Anyone may decline a dance at any time without giving a reason. If you decline, do so kindly. If you're declined, respect that decision gracefully.
3. Safety & Consideration
Feeling safe on and off the dance floor is essential to a healthy, growing community. Stay self-aware and tune into both your needs and the needs of those around you.
-
Physical Safety: No lifts or drops on the social floor. Check for injuries before dancing and communicate your own physical limits to your partner.
-
Sobriety: Enjoy the event in moderation. If staff believe you are unsafe to dance due to intoxication or injury, we reserve the right to ask you to step off the floor.
-
Floorcraft: Stay aware of the space around you. Avoid practising new, risky moves on a crowded floor.
-
Hygiene: WCS is a close-contact dance. Please use deodorant, bring a fresh top to change into, and tie back long hair to avoid whipping your partner with it!
4. Classroom Etiquette
-
Listen: Please stay quiet while teachers are talking so everyone can hear.
-
Space: Position yourself so you aren't blocking others from seeing the demonstration.
-
Teaching: Leave the coaching to the event staff. Don't offer unsolicited advice or feedback to partners unless you've both explicitly agreed to practise together outside of class time.
5. Welcoming New Dancers
We're proud of our "Zero to Hero" track. Many attendees may be at their first-ever dance event. Please go out of your way to welcome, encourage, and support our newest faces, your kindness defines their first impression of our community.
Support and Report — Who to Talk To?
